S2: Topic I will focus on.

For this second semester, our community connections curriculum created the opportunity for me to pursue a topic that interests me and focus on events that discuss it. The topics offered asked: "What are educational rights?", "How do countries relate to one another?", "What does feminism mean, at personal, community, and global levels?", "What is the relationship between identity and justice in America?-in Chicago?", "What are different forms of power that shape people lives?", "What does environmental responsibility mean?-What is the responsibility of the public for healthy individuals, families, and communities?", "What is the impact of science and technology on democratic society?" I think all these topics are relevant in our everyday lives. This is why it was difficult for me to chose which one to focus on. Initially, I was trying to pick between feminism, education, and environment. But as I looked through the listing for public events, I realized identity and justice would be an easier topic to find events for.
I chose to focus on identity and justice because of its broadness. Identity is something that exists for everyone and because of all the different ways in which individuals identify, it is interesting and important to explore the ways that society has been molded by them and around them. Identity and justice is broad enough that it lets me explore topics touching such as race, gender, and class and how they impact education which isn't that far from my initial interests. I like how I can explore more things through this topic.
